The psychology of hoarding

Whenever we are faced with unforeseeable dangers in life, be it sabre-toothed tigers or empty toilet paper shelves, we tend to do one thing for sure: short-circuit.

This is the moment when emotions take control over reason. This happens unconsciously and not always just sporadically.

Climate crisis, pandemic, war, a nuclear power plant with no power supply in the immediate vicinity - as if we didn't already have enough problems. What remains is powerlessness.

We need the feeling that we can intervene, that we can improve a situation. Now, of course, you could change your life, found a party or become a guerrilla activist.

But hoarding flour and toilet paper is much easier and does the same thing in our brains in the short term. It calms us down.

We advocate questioning the strategy and perhaps becoming active after all. There are countless possibilities - pro.earth shows many and is one of them. 💚
