The poetic (children's) book DER KLEINE EISKÖNIG (THE LITTLE ICE KING) depicts the big issue of our time in an enchanting story accompanied by delicate illustrations - but not only that.

At the very top of the iceberg, which is being pulled by a ship, sits a small seagull. But why is it sitting up there? And why is the ship towing an iceberg of all things? It melts when it gets into the heat!

The fairytale story by Uwe-Michael Gutzschhahn also makes the reader think.

What is hidden under the ice?

Where is the little king off to?

What is he looking for?

Why did he take the iceberg with him?

AND - why does the seagull persist in sitting on "its" iceberg instead of simply flying away?

This story is about climate change and the changes it brings, but also about protest.

Pro.earth conclusion:

We agree with Andrea Kromoser's description in the STANDARD: "This picture book is quiet and loud at the same time." The most apt words have already been found.

We recommend this highly successful work of art not only to physically recognizable children, but to all those lucky ones who have retained a childlike soul, but also to those who are still searching for it. 💚
