By train to the sea

Fancy a vacation by the sea? Without traffic jams, annoying stopovers or stress on the way there?

We'll show you a few great train connections that will take you directly to the places we long to visit.

Split

The Euronight connection takes you from Bratislava via Vienna and Graz to Split.

Overnight by train to Split - what more could you want? It's not for nothing that the white houses of this city are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just think of Diocletian's Palace, the palm-lined promenade or the proximity to the easily accessible places of longing Zlatni Rat, Hvar, Šolta, Trogir and Šibenik.

Cinque Terre

The Nightjet takes you from Vienna via Klagenfurt or Munich via Salzburg to the Italian Riviera overnight.

Thanks to an extension of the route from Genoa to Levanto and La Spezia, you can now easily reach the famous Cinque Terre.

The dreamy towns of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare with their colorful houses nestled against the cliffs can be reached in just a few minutes by local train.

Kvarner Bay

You can travel overnight from Villach and Salzburg directly to the port city of Rijeka.

If you need a short break from strolling around the city or lying on the beach, you can visit the nearby Plivice Lakes National Park with its waterfalls and sparkling lakes for a relaxing day trip.

Rijeka is the gateway to the islands of Croatia. With the many ferry routes that start here, you are well connected to the other coastal towns and islands along the Adriatic coast.

Only in summer 2023: By train to Ancona, Rimini and co.

The "Special Edition" among the train connections takes you to the central Adriatic coast: from Vienna and Munich there is a Nightjet connection "direttissima" to Ancona for the time being only in 2023.

This means you can not only get to Rimini quickly, but also easily reach the vacation resorts of Pesaro, Riccione and Cattolica.

Venice

The Italian lagoon city of Venice is worth a visit at any time of year.

As we all know, "La Serenissima" is car-free, so traveling by train is ideal.

The night train connections from Vienna (via Linz) or Stuttgart (via Salzburg) will take you on an overnight walk across the Rialto Bridge.
