Celebrating for climate & justice: this will be the Südwind Street Festival 2023

On June 3 and 4, "A Good Life for All" will once again be celebrated on the campus of the University of Vienna. Visitors can expect live music, panel discussions and culinary delights from all over the world.

"A good life for all" means, among other things, that it can be lived on an intact planet. People in the Global South, women and poor people are particularly hard hit by the climate crisis. That is not fair! Südwind is focusing on "Climate & Justice" for the first time at this year's street festival on June 3 and 4.

"The climate crisis is the biggest challenge of our time, and it can be very overwhelming. We want to give visitors to the street festival an understanding of the complexity of the climate crisis in a simple way and at the same time show them how they can take action themselves," says Hannah Knust, organizer of the Südwind street festival. The continuous photo exhibition "Places of the climate crisis" and the panel discussion "Climate crisis - Is there anything left to save?" on Saturday at 5 pm are intended to raise awareness. Amina Guggenbichler, spokesperson for the Vienna Earth is Burning movement, Brigitte Grahsl from the Platform for Climate Communication, climate protection activist Sina Reisch and climate action lawyer Michaela Krömer will be taking part in the discussion.

Together with Slam B, we are also organizing a poetry slam on Sunday at 13:30 on the topic "Weather report of the future - thoughts on climate change, social justice and change". You can register for the slam at poetry.strassenfest@suedwind.at until May 28, 2023.

As always, there is of course also a great music programto which you can dance in the old AKH. The main acts are Damion Lee, Pure Chlorine, EsRAP and Rocky Leon. Taekwondo, yoga and acrobatics can be seen on the themed stage. Various NGOs present their work and Global 2000 organizes a clothes swap party, among other things. You can learn how to repair your own bike with the Hermes bike messengers. There will also be a colorful children's program and a raffle on both days. The food on offer from all over the world is exclusively vegetarian and vegan this year. When allocating the stands, preference was given to organizations and companies that are involved in climate justice.

You can find the complete program here.
