Climate protection goes to school

"The province of Burgenland, Burgenland Energie and the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park are committed to climate protection in an innovative educational program with Burgenland schoolchildren," said Provincial Councillor Daniela Winkler on Tuesday at a workshop with the pupils of the 4th grade elementary school in Illmitz.

As part of this project, "mobile climate rangers" from the Lake Neusiedl - Seewinkel National Park visit schools and accompany school classes on excursions to teach them about climate change, climate protection, ecology and renewable energy production.

"With the sun and the wind, we have the gold of Burgenland, we have the technologies and we have the innovative power of the people of Burgenland. I am therefore convinced that one of the success factors for this change is our children. We want to continue to invest in our youngest - and that is why we have launched this 'Klimaranger' initiative," says Stephan Sharma, Chairman of the Management Board, CEO, of Burgenland Energie.

After a pilot phase in this school year, the educational programs will be further developed by the climate rangers and, in the 2023/24 school year, well-tested and pedagogically high-quality workshop and educational programs will be carried out with as many school classes as possible in the districts of Neusiedl am See and Eisenstadt-Umgebung.
