The dream of flying - without a license

It is closer to us than ever before, as so-called flying cars have been under development for several years, which may one day adapt our reality to a science fiction novel.

In 2018, for example, the "Jetson One" was presented for the first time by the Swedish company "Jetson Aero" - the futuristic e-plane is now available for purchase.

The correct name for this type of vehicle is "Personal Electric Aerial Vehicle", but in fact it most closely resembles a quad bike.

Four twin rotors and eight 120 hp engines make the mini helicopter agile and allow it to reach an altitude of 1,500 meters with ease.

Its maximum speed is around 100 km/h, with a range of 25 to 30 km.

The controls work via two pedals, a throttle and a joystick.

Sounds a bit like a toy - considering the fact that it's only allowed on and over private property, it's even closer to that at the moment.

But completely emission-free.

To ensure that nothing to little happens to inexperienced owners of the multicopter, the vehicle has extensive safety equipment. This includes a safety cell, a parachute and an on-board computer that can land the mini aircraft safely on autopilot in an emergency. A collision avoidance system is also on board.

The featherweight aircraft is priced at 80,000 euros, yet it is already almost sold out.

However, the "Jetson One" is just one of several models, some of which are already on the market.

We would now like to know:

Can this type of transportation be our future?

At the current stage of development, we see the following issues:

🔋 The electrically powered version of the flying car does not yet have enough power to transport several passengers, for example, and the flight time for current models is a maximum of 30 minutes.

💰 The costs for various aircraft are simply still too high.

🌬 The models that are currently available are very susceptible to the weather and therefore not (yet) really suitable for everyday use.

👩‍✈️ The question of the appropriate "driver's license" probably still needs to be clarified.

There is certainly room for improvement on all these points, but just think how utopian it would have been a short time ago to carry a pocket-sized phone with a built-in computer and camera with you at all times.

Hence the pro.earth conclusion:

Anything is possible. 💚
