Citrus fruits in the air

After the temperatures climbed above 20 degrees within a very short time, we #Beetschwestern put our Mediterranean plants outside. The long time indoors has led to scale insect infestation on some of them. This will then regulate itself outdoors. The last few weeks before going outside bring out many pests such as whiteflies and aphids.

We have currently placed the lemon trees in a bright, but not directly sunny spot under the kiwi so that the plant can acclimatize and the leaves are not burnt by the sun. This place also protects them from possible late frost during the Ice Saints. Some years we also threw thin blankets over the trees overnight to protect them.

After some lemon trees developed long shoots in their winter quarters, we gave them a nice haircut in the hope of a rich lemon harvest. Unfortunately, every year a few mini lemons fall off the branches when we take them out of their quarters, and many of them dried out. Perhaps we didn't water them enough. It was definitely not too warm.

In one to two weeks, we then place the citrus fruits in the sun.
